Darren White steps down as head coach at Mt Albert Ponsonby

Auckland’s Mt Albert Ponsonby will have a new head coach for next season’s Lotto NRFL Men’s Championship campaign.

Darren White (35) has decided to step down from the role after two seasons leading the first team at Anderson Park.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank Darren for his time with the men’s first team, playing some exciting front-foot football over the last two seasons,” the club said when announcing the change.

“We wish you all the best for your next adventure, Daz. We look forward to still seeing you on the balcony supporting the teams!”

In his first season at MAP, the club finished fourth in the Lotto NRFL Men’s Championship, and in 2024, the side finished eighth.

As a player, White won three national titles, playing more than 120 games for Auckland City, and five OFC Champions League titles as well as featuring the side that won a FIFA Club World Cup bronze medal in Morocco in 2014.

After his spell with the Navy Blues, White played for Three Kings United and Bay Olympic, and also had a playing stint with MAP.

His assistant in the MAP dugout, Sam Jasper was a former U-17 and U-20 international who played for the New Zealand Knights, Waitakere United, North Shore United, Glenfield Rovers, East Coast Bays, Bay Olympic and Albany United.
