“A bittersweet day for me,” Wintersgill said via the club’s social media.

“Leaving a club so close to my heart, that has been instrumental in my journey, but very proud to be taking the next step in my career in to professional football.

“Thank you to the club who has given me so much, over so many years.”

In announcing the move, the club said: “On behalf of the players, staff and the club we would like to say a huge thank you and all the best in your new journey.”

Wintersgill was appointed first team coach in March 2023, after eight years with the club.

In 2021, he had a brief spell with Northern Rovers but returned to Suburbs as an assistant coach.

Suburbs started their National League season with a 2-0 win against the Wellington Phoenix Reserves in their season opener.

In Round 2, they host Napier City Rovers, who also won their season opener, beating Western Springs 4-0.
