Wanaka and Waimak United challenge for promotion to Southern League

Wanaka get home advantage in the first leg of their play-off series against Waimak United, to decide which club is promoted to next season’s Southern League.

The first leg takes place at Wanaka’s Recreation Centre on Saturday, with the return fixture booked for Waimak United’s Kendall Park a week later.

The winner, on aggregate score over both legs, will replace FC Twenty 11 who were relegated from the Southern League after finishing bottom this year.

Wanaka go into the play-offs having finished runners-up to Mosgiel in the Southern Premier League,

Waimak United qualified by winning Mainland Football’s New World Premiership, and then beating FC Nelson in a two-legged play-off in September.

The sides drew 6-6 on aggregate and Waimak went through after winning a penalty shootout 4-3 when extra time could not separate the teams.
