New Zealand international forward Deven Jackson has signed for women’s A-League club Newcastle Jets.
Jackson (26) has moved to the Jets after a season with Ninja A-League rivals Canberra United, where she made 21 appearances last season, scoring twice.
The one-cap Football Fern told the Jets’ website: “With a strong core of players returning and the momentum from last year’s success, I’m excited to build on that progress and make a meaningful impact within the team.”
Newcastle Jets head coach Ryan Campbell said. “Deven adds a lot of experience to a young team which is something that I am excited about. Her ability to play a range of positions is a key strength of her game.
“I am looking forward to her adding to our squad and I am sure she will be a great addition to the squad.”
Deven Jackson’s journey to the Jets
Jackson played junior football for Auckland’s Bay Olympic and played her early senior women’s football for Three Kings United.
She moved to the United States in 2017 to play at Western Kentucky University but injury disrupted her time there.
After a three-year break, she joined the Eastern Suburbs side that won the Women’s National League grand final in December 2022, scoring twice in their 4-0 win against Western Springs.
She made her debut for New Zealand in the international friendly against the United States in early 2023 but was not selected for the FIFA Women’s World Cup squad.
Jackson was appointed Bay Olympic’s youth strength and conditioning coach for 2023, and moved across the Tasman in September 2023 to join Canberra United for her first A-League contract.
