New Zealand international Michaela Foster has signed for English second-tier club Durham after leaving the Wellington Phoenix.
Foster (25) has become Durham’s fifth summer signing, joining New Zealand international teammate Hannah Blake.

Hamilton-born Foster represented New Zealand at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Foster’s transfer was completed in time for the UK transfer deadline making her available for Durham’s Women’s Championship fixture against Charlton Athletic on Sunday September 22.
She told Durham’s website: “It’s exciting — it’s been in the works a long time and I’m ready to go.
“It’s been cool to see the facilities and meet everyone.
“Being here in England, especially with Durham in the Championship, was a great opportunity for me and I’m really excited to be playing for this team in this league.”
Foster made 38 appearances for the Phoenix, all but one of which were starts, scoring two goals and setting up six others.
She was a revelation in her first season as a professional after joining the Phoenix on a scholarship contract.
Foster went on to start all 18 matches during the 2022-23 A-League, primarily at left back, and dominated the club’s end-of-season awards night; named the women’s player of the year, players’ player of the year, members’ player of the year and media player of the year.
She was again one of the team’s best performers last season and showcased her versatility by playing as a centre back, wing back and midfielder as well as her usual fullback spot.
