Goalkeeper Jack Duncan is leaving the Wellington Phoenix to join Melbourne Victory, without having made an appearance for the New Zealand club.

Duncan (31) joined the Phoenix for the 2023-24 season but could not get into the men’s A-League starting line-up because of the outstanding form of Alex Paulsen.

Announcing his signing, Melbourne Victory head coach Patrick Kisnorbo said Duncan would be a welcome addition to the club’s goalkeeping stocks.

“We’re pleased to welcome Jack to the squad for the upcoming season,” Kisnorbo said.

“Jack is a well-established goalkeeper in the league whose attitude and character will complement our squad.

“We want Jack to be competing for the number one jersey and we believe he has the attributes to be able to push the goalkeepers in our first team to achieve this.”

Duncan made 104 A-League appearances for the Newcastle Jets, and has had stints with Danish side Randers FC and Saudi club Al Qadsiah.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Melbourne Victory,” Duncan told the club’s website.

“Victory is always a club that wants to be competing for silverware and I’m looking forward to helping the team and the club achieve this.

“I’m looking forward to working with Patrick and the coaching staff to get the best out of me this season and I’m excited for the challenge ahead.”

Duncan joined the Phoenix in June 2023 after the departure of first string ‘keeper Oli Sail to Perth Glory.
