Kazakhstan needed a big win to finish top of Group D, knowing Spain — the #3 ranked side in the world — were also likely to win their final pool match, against Libya.

Spain won 8-0, winning the group with a one-goal better differential.

Kazakhstan’s win was built around a Player of the Match performance by Arnold Knaub who scored five goals against New Zealand.

Kazakhstan will now return to Andijan, where they played their first two games, for the last 16. Their opponents will be the Group E winners, either Portugal or Morocco, on Thursday. Group D winners Spain will take on one of the best third-placed teams.
