Events industry recognises FIFA Women’s World Cup success at annual awards

The success of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup has led to a number of awards for those who contributed to the staging of the event in New Zealand.

New Zealand co-hosted the tournament with Australia, breaking records for attendances on both sides of the Tasman.

The 2024 NZEA New Zealand Event Awards recognised the following at their function held at Fly Palmy Arena, Palmerston North, in late August 2024.

  • NZ Football were awarded best Major Event or Mega Event Award.
  • Wellington’s Sky Stadium won Best Venue for its role in hosting matches.
  • SPUR were judged Best Supplier for providing services to the tournament.
  • Chris Simpson, who was instrumental in bringing the FIFA Women’s World Cup to New Zealand, was presented with an Outstanding Contribution to the Industry award.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup was a huge success in Aoteaora New Zealand with more than 700,000 tickets sold to the tournament and generating a television audience of more than 2.1 million.
