VALE: Final whistle blows for former New Zealand international Jim Moyes

Jim Moyes, a member of the New Zealand team that toured war-torn Vietnam in 1967, has died in Taranaki, aged 77.

Moyes, who is credited with six full caps for New Zealand, was a member of the national men’s squad that competed at the international tournament in Saigon.

Though a member of the touring party, he had to wait till July 1969 for his international debut, featuring in New Zealand’s 0-0 draw with New Caledonia.

A tall, strong centre back, Moyes played his club football for Waikato side Huntly Thistle who competed in the Northern League’s second divison.

A celebration of Moyes’ life will be held in Huntly on Thursday August 15, 2024 (see notice below).

Moyes, James George (Jim). Passed away 7th August 2024 at Base Hospital, New Plymouth, aged 77 years. Dearly loved husband of Anne and the late Kay. Loved father, father-in-law and Poppa Jim.

A service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at the Chapel of Memories, 32 William St, Huntly on Thursday 15th August at 11am to be followed by a burial at the Kimihia Cemetery.
