WATCH: Age group international George Stanger scores in Scottish opener

New Zealand age group defender George Stanger has scored for his Ayr United club on the opening day of the Scottish Championship season.

Stanger (23) scrambled in Ayr’s first goal on their way to a 2-0 win against his former club, Hamilton Academical.

Stanger, the son of revered Scottish rugby international winger Tony Stanger, has played for New Zealand’s OlyWhites, and U-20 and U-23 national sides.

He joined Ayr, his eighth professional club, in mid-2023.

The centre half began his football career with Hamilton Academical in 2018 and has since had loan spells with Stirling Albion, East Kilbridge and Forfar Athletic before joining University of Sterling in 2021, who loaned him to Dumbarton in 2022, ahead of his move to Alloa Athletic.

He qualifies to play for New Zealand through his Auckland-born mother, Bid.
