The Chatham Cup semi-final draw has given all four surviving clubs the pathway for any of them to achieve a memorable league/club double.
The draw has ensured an Auckland team will be in the final, with local rivals Auckland City and Birkenhead United drawn against each other.
In the other semi-final, Canterbury’s Coastal Spirit will host Wellington Olympic.
- Auckland City lead this year’s Northern League but have won the Chatham Cup only once in their 20-year history, with victory in 2022.
- Birkenhead United, currently second in the Northern League, are trying to win their third Chatham Cup in eight years, having lifted the trophy in 2016 and 2018.
- Coastal Spirit, unbeaten this season in the Southern League, English Cup and Chatham Cup, are striving to become the third Canterbury club in five seasons to win New Zealand football’s oldest club trophy.
- Wellington Olympic, last year’s National League champions, have a five-point lead in this year’s Central League, and can add the Chatham Cup to their trophy cabinet, having last won it in 2009.
The semi-final draw was made at Auckland’s North Harbour Stadium by NZ Football’s men’s competition manager Jay Aickin and Auckland United head coach Jose Fijueira.
