Midfielder Macey Fraser under injury cloud as Ferns prepare for Colombia match

New Zealand will make a late decision on whether midfield playmaker Macey Fraser is fit to play Colombia in Monday’s game at the Summer Olympics in France.

The Utah Royals’ player hobbled off in the second half of the Ferns’ 2-1 loss to Canada, clearly in distress after appearing to hurt her lower leg.

Acting head coach Michael Mayne said some players had injury “niggles” typical with short turnarounds between games

“The biggest concern keeping a close eye going into the game, is with Macey Fraser,” he said.

“She rolled her ankle on one of the Canadian player’s foot so we’ve monitored that (for) the last 48 hours.”

Mayne said a decision on Fraser’s availability would be made on gameday.

“She’s the only real concern, and the rest is just the normal stuff you’d expect after a pretty hard game where you’ve battled a lot.”

The Ferns played Colombia twice last year in friendlies and Mayne said it helped to understand the individualism in the way they played.

“The main thing is that we all turn up tomorrow and be better individually and I think, as a team, we’ll be fine.”
