New Zealand international goalkeeper Brianna Edwards has signed a two-year deal with women’s A-League club Sydney FC.
This follows her departure from the Wellington Phoenix at the expiry of her contract.
Sydney-born Edwards (21) spent the past three seasons with the Phoenix and has earned one cap for the Football Ferns.
“I can’t wait to get going and start my fight for a place in the starting line-up,” Edwards told Sydney’s club website.
“I grew up playing in the local area so it’s nice to be returning home to my roots.”

Head coach Ante Juric says Edwards will become a successful part of the Sky Blues for the next couple of years.
“Brianna is an important and a great addition to our team,” he said.
“She has proven to be a very good ‘keeper over the past few years, and she will fit in very well at Sydney FC.
“I see Brianna flourishing at the club and working her way to yet another level.”
Edwards was recognised at the end-of-season women’s A-League awards, being credited with the Save of the Year for her her full-stretch effort to prevent Newcastle Jets’ Sarina Bolden scoring with a header in round 15.
Edwards will join Jasmine Black and Tahlia Franco as the club’s contracted goalkeepers for next season.
The club remains in negotiations with Matildas goalkeeper Jada Whyman but Juric has indicated she’s likely to leave.
“We are still in negotiations with Jada and would like to be able to sign her, however she is expected to agree terms with an overseas club.”
Edwards and the Wellington Phoenix’s other regular goalkeeper, Rylee Foster, confirmed their departures from the club when they were out of contract.
The Phoenix have since signed Portugese U-23 international Carolina Vilão from Benfica.
