PREVIEW: Tauranga Moana increase lead in NRFL Women’s Championship

By Joan Grey

Tauranga Moana have pulled further ahead in the Lotto NRFL Women’s Championship, putting a four-point gap on nearest challengers Onehunga Sports.

Tauranga secured a commanding 5-0 victory over bottom-placed Manukau United last weekend, while second-placed Onehunga Sports drew 2-2 with Melville United.

Tauranga Moana’s four-point buffer over Onehunga Sports has been forged by having the league’s most prolific attack with 48 goals, and the tightest defence, having conceded only 17.

Sunday sees Tauranga welcome Northern Rovers to Gordon Spratt Reserve in Papamoa.

Meanwhile, Onehunga Sports face third-placed Franklin United. Franklin United trail Onehunga Sports by four points but have two games in hand.

In other fixtures, Melville United take on Manukau United, while Birkenhead United meet Central United.
