Ferns forward Paige Satchell becomes free agent after release from London club

Football Fern Paige Satchell is looking for a new club after her release from English Women’s Championship club London City Lionesses.

Satchell (26) joined the Lionesses soon after the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, when her contract expired with A-League club Wellington Phoenix.

The Lionesses have listed Satchell among nine players who will not be retained for next season.

Satchell became a free agent on July 1, 2024, the day after her contract expired with the English club.

London City Lionesses’ director of football, Ronald Thompson said: “I want to thank all of the players for their hard work last season. They were key to helping us secure our safety in the league and we wish them all the best for the future.”

Ferns teammate Grace Neville (24) is also out of contract but was not included in the released list. She signed a one-year extension to her contract in mid-2023, having been the Lionesses’ regular right back since 2019 when she joined from Arsenal.

The Lionesses had a turbulent season in 2023-24, with a change of head coach, new ownership and a flirtation with relegation before securing eighth place in the 12-team competition.

Rotorua-born Satchell has played professionally for five seasons, having played for SC Sand (Frauen Bundesliga), and for Canberra United, Sydney FC, and Wellington Phoenix in the Liberty A-League.
