New Zealand international midfielder Sarpreet Singh is a free agent after his release from German club Hansa Rostock.

Though he was signed on a three-year contract in July 2023, the agreement allowed the club to end the deal if they were relegated to Bundesliga 3.

Singh (25) is one of 14 players who will leave the club following their relegation.

In its formal announcement, Hansa Rostock said 11 players would leave at the expiration of their contracts while three players, including 14-cap All White Singh, had contracts “not valid for the third division.”

The club’s director of professional football, Amir Shapourzadeh, said: “We would like to thank all the players who are leaving FC Hansa this summer and wish them all the best for the future. After relegation to the 3rd division, a major personnel shake-up is unavoidable.”

After a long battle to regain fitness after a groin injury, Auckland-born Singh was hoping to reboot his career in Germany by joining Hansa from Bayern Munich.

However, he struggled for game time and ended his season prematurely with a red card and suspension, after scoring against FC Schalke on May 11, 2024.
