Striker Ryan De Vries reaches century mark with latest goals for Auckland City

Prolific goalscorer Ryan De Vries has become only the second Auckland City player to score more than 100 goals for the club.

De Vries (32), who first joined Auckland City a decade ago, reached the century milestone with a double in his side’s 3-0 win against East Coast Bays in last weekend’s Northern League fixture at Bay City Park.

Leading the club’s all-time goalscorer list is Emiliano Tade, who netted 152 times in 242 appearances before moving across town to sign for Western Springs this season.

Tade (36) has scored 10 goals already for his new club, and trails Eastern Suburbs’ Jake Mechell in the Northern League’s Golden Boot.

De Vries has five goals so far this season, but he and his Navy Blues teammates take a break from the Northern League this month as they head to Tahiti to defend their OFC Men’s Champions League title.

Auckland City will play Fijian champions Rewa in their opening Group A game on Sunday.

Their other group opponents are Papua New Guinea champions Hekari United, and the Solomon Warriors from Solomon Islands.
