Uni-Mount Bohemian beat FC Whangarei to claim Terry Hobin Cup

posted in: News

Uni-Mount Bohemian’s Alto Vuelo side have won the Terry Hobin Cup for a second time, beating FC Whangarei 3-0 in Auckland.

The match is played between the winners of Auckland’s NRF Federation Cup and the holders of Northland’s Stafford Choat Cup, and marks the start of the community football season in the north.

Alto Vuelo won the inaugural cup match in 2023 and successfully defended the trophy in 2024.

Pedro de Torres Lacrore gave Alto Vuelo a half-time lead before substitutes Vitor Fernandes and Joao Batista added two late goals to secure the cup at William Green Domain.

Batista’s goal keeps up his fine record with the Terry Hobin Cup, having scored both goals for his side in last year’s 2-0 win against Kerikeri Bay.

The cup is named after Northern Football’s Terry Hobin, one of the inaugural board members of United Soccer 1 (later Northern Football Federation), who took on the role of the Federation’s general manager in its first year.

Hobin has been involved in football for more than 60 years as a player, junior/youth coach, referee, football writer, administrator and rep team manager.

He is a recipient of Friends of Football’s Medal of Excellence.
