Bay of Plenty referees have established a youth academy to help develop aspiring referees aged 13-19.

The Tauranga-based academy aims to provide teenagers with the chance to:

  • Learn from experienced referees
  • Earn recognised accreditation.
  • Gain practical experience.
  • Get access to mentorship and guidance.
  • Benefit from networking opportunities.

WaiBOP’s new academy is free to attend and requires no previous experience.

In its promotional information, the academy says academy referees will get the chance to officiate football and futsal in the WaiBOP region, including paid opportunities.

Referees will also get the chance to officiate at prestigious events such as Zespri Aims Games and Weir Rose Bowl.

Participant registration is accepted on first-come, first-served basis. Limited spaces are available.
